SESLYO shall exist to support and strengthen youth ministry at the congregational, synodical, regional, and churchwide level and shall be a ministry of, for, by and among youth in the Body of Christ.
SESLYO is the Southeastern Synod Lutheran Youth Organization and it meets in Assembly once a year but is represented by the SESLYO Board that consists of representatives from across the Southeastern Synod conferences, as well as youth representing LGBTQ+ youth and Differently Abled Youth. This board is elected at the annual Assembly and serves to guide youth ministry across our synod working with the adult leaders coordinating the All State Events (ALL GEORGIA, ALL TENNESSEE and ALASSIPPI), as well as serving in leadership opportunities at AFFIRM and serving as voting members at the Southeastern Synod Assembly.
Every congregation can send two voting members to the SESLYO Assembly, those youth selected to serve must be in high school. To run for an elected position on the Board of SESLYO you currently must be in 8th grade -11th grade at the time of the Assembly. All positions are elected for a 1 year term, except the chair-elect position, which serves one year as the chair-elect and the following year as the chair of SESLYO. Beyond the two voting members from each Southeastern Synod congregation, each congregation can send additional visitors to the Assembly.
Each year the Southeastern Synod Lutheran Youth Organization Board (SESLYO) chooses a theme for the youth events of the Southeastern Synod - this year (2021-2022) comes from Romans 12:11 - "SOUL ON FIRE!" So throughout this year at each of our state events, at the SESLYO Assembly in March, and Affirm in June, we will see that God has chosen us - and that's what sets our SOUL ON FIRE!
The SESLYO Assembly is the opportunity for the youth of the Southeastern Synod to come together to worship together, learn together, fellowship together and do the work of the church. The SESLYO Assembly has plenary sessions where resolutions will be heard and voted on, there also will be elections for the new SESLYO Board, as well as a business meeting of a sorts voting on constitutional amendments. But SESLYO Assembly isn't all "business" - youth will gather with other youth to learn more about the theme of the Assembly in workshops, they will also do service projects and have a chance to build relationships with one another.
