Bishop Kevin Strickland's Pastoral Letter
Here is an excerpt from Bishop Strickland's letter:
We grieve with the family of Mr. Ahmaud Arbery, as they remember his life and his birthdate. But we cannot stop with our prayers, our grief, or even our acknowledgment of our privilege. We must advocate and be a voice for those whose voices have been taken from them.
The African Descent Lutheran Association and the Southeastern Synod Advocacy Council have created a pathway for you to act now by encouraging the passing of HB 426 so that Georgians may be protected by a Hate Crime Statute:
O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son. Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred that infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unites us in bonds of love; and, through our struggle and confusion, work to accomplish your purposes on earth; so that, in your good time, every people and nation may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne.
In this time of distress and despair, hear the cries and questions of Ahmaud Arbery's family, friends and all of us. Console all who mourn and may we all trust that nothing can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus, in whose name we pray.
