It’s hard to believe that the Christmas season is just around the corner. We also know that for people who have lost loved ones or people without healthy families with whom to gather, the Christmas season can be one of the loneliest times of the year. This is why many churches have begun hosting a Blue Christmas service. The liturgy takes many forms, but the goal is the same—to create a sacred space for folks who often feel sad or out of sorts in the usual Christmas festivities. Blue Christmas services are often held on the shortest day of the year as a reminder that from here on out, things get lighter on account of Jesus’ birth.
If your congregation is hosting a Blue Christmas or Longest Night service this year, please fill out the form below so that we can publicize your service. Your synod’s Diversity and Justice Taskforce would like to publish a complete list of all Blue Christmas services in the synod by November 15, 2022.
We also recognize that some folks (whether you or someone you know) could use extra care this season beyond a worship service. Or perhaps someone you know is not ready to participate in a worship service at home or in person. If so, please know that we care and would like to share these resources with you.
