Southeastern Synod Youth and Young Adult Ministry

I am pleased to share with you the exciting news that Chandler Carriker will be joining our team as Vice President of Program and Engagement effective April 1, 2019. We are truly blessed to have someone of his caliber and experience base stepping into this important role.
Chandler is a deacon in the ELCA, an alumnus of NC State University and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Chandler worked 8 summers on staff at Camp Lutheridge and Camp Lutherock including two summers as Associate Program Director. He taught in the religion department at Theil College, a school of the ELCA in Greenville, PA, and served as the Director of Theological Education with Youth at Gettysburg Seminary and Philadelphia Seminary (now United Lutheran Seminary). Since 2011 Chandler has served at Lutheran World Relief, most recently as the Associate Director for Outreach and Engagement, where he has worked to connect Lutherans with ways to put their faith into action around the world. Chandler worships, alongside his son Jonathan, at Morning Star Lutheran Church in Matthews, NC where his spouse, Rev. Naomi Sease Carriker serves as pastor.
Chandler says, “My sense of calling is rooted in equipping and engaging others in what they need to make a difference in God’s world. I believe camping and outdoor ministry are a central place for that to so many people. I look forward to bringing my experiences in engagement, marketing and fundraising to an already incredible team at Novus Way with the goal of inviting even more people to experience these extraordinary places of retreat and renewal.”
This is truly great news for our ministry and the direction in which we are going!

All TN 2019 took place at Trinity LC, Tullahoma, TN

122 youth and adults met November 10 & 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hixson, Tennessee for All Tennessee.  During the event youth from across Tennessee gathered to learn more about the "GODISNOWHERE" theme by participating in different activities throughout Saturday afternoon.  Youth looked at where God was through an interactive Stations of the Cross activity, they also got to ask Pastor Ed Myers and Pastor Katherine Museus any question they wanted to ask, they learned about how we can be God's hands in the midst of disasters through the work of Lutheran Disaster Relief and put together hygiene kits for Lutheran World Relief.  To finish out their service that day they moved mulch on to the church's playground.  Worship started with a group of youth from Christ Kiswahili Lutheran Mission leading in song and during the confession participants were invited to take a piece of string to represent their confession and tie it on nails that formed "GODISNOWHERE" - a powerful way to see that God comes to us in the midst of our brokenness and as we communed together we saw God come once again in the body and blood of Christ. Special thanks to the volunteers of Trinity Lutheran Church for their hospitality and meals, as well as the ALL Tennessee planning team for their hard work putting it all together.
